101. Current Trends in the Illegal Drug Subculture- 2008 Edition – Matthew T. Bennett, M.S., B.A., B.A.

This workshop provides an overview of current trends in illegal drug use and within the illegal drug subculture. Identifying and understanding the vernacular and symbolism within the drug subculture as well as identifying illegal drug paraphernalia will be two key areas of this workshop.

102. The Pound Down Program A regional approach to improving the culture of health – Will Clower, Ph.D.

This workshop reports on the results and challenges of a novel web-based, regional wellness initiative inspired by the 250th birthday of Pittsburgh. This effort targets comprehensive and sustainable changes in the lifestyle behaviors that cause chronic caloric imbalance, such as sleep debt, stress-induced eating, passive overconsumption, the family table, and cooking routines

103. Get Your SHINE Together! Communicating with Heart & Humor – Trina Hess

Our technological, fast-paced world threatens to overshadow human connection, making our conversations and interactions misunderstood and sometimes hurtful. We need a means of communication that will entertain our listeners. By understanding and using your own innate humor style, we can reap the healthy benefits that laughter offers. By crafting your messages with the comedian’s style, you can get attention, help others retain your message, and be perceived as approachable.

104. Implementation of the Youth Empowerment Program – Maria Elena Hallion, Ph.D., Angela Knapp, and Andrea Mancuso, Ed.M.

The Youth Empowerment Program, funded by the Office of Minority Healthy, serves over 30 high school students from Norristown, PA; a community that is fighting to overcome high rates of crime, substance abuse and teen pregnancy. Cabrini College has partnered with various community organizations to prepare students for college and/or careers, to improve physical health and nutrition, to increase physical activity, to enhance academic performance, to create a sense of community involvement and to expose students to diverse cultures. This workshop will focus on the planning and implementing of the health and wellness aspect of the program.

105. Tai Chi Four: Mind, Body, Spirit & Psyche © – William Klinger, Ph.D., C.T.R.S. & Duane A. Crider, Ph.D..

This hands-on workshop will help participants become familiar with Four Basic adaptive Tai Chi movements and additional partner exercises developed by Drs. Crider and Klinger that can be utilized as a relaxation/exercise program. Participants will not only do these movements but will be taught how to teach these movements to others. Tai Chi Four: Mind, Body, Spirit and Psyche which has been implemented for various clients in a hospital setting and presented at several conferences. Come stretch your mind, body, spirit and psyche with Drs. Crider and Klinger - it’s a healthy alternative for individuals from all walks of life.
