601. Cyber-bullying: Preventing 21st
Century Style Bullying – Mary Dolan
Participants will examine relational aggression, gender specific
bullying behavior and how today’s technology is being utilized
for the purpose of bullying others. The effects of this behavior
on individuals and school environments and youth engaging
prevention and intervention strategies will be discussed. In
addition, web-based and traditional resources, safe reporting
methods, examples of school policies and an update on state
legislative actions will be provided. |

602. My Life Would be Great if I Were in
an Octopus’s Garden Under the Sea – Kathryn M. Maxwell,
R.N., D.Ed., CHESThis
far-from-the-same-old stress management session will look
into the past to help set the course for participants as they
prepare for personal wellness in the future. The music of the
Beatles – John, Paul, George, and Ringo – set the world on fire
in the sixties. Intentionally or not, their words and music
addressed stress management issues that span the decades. In a
light-hearted manner, this workshop will focus on increasing
awareness of personal stressors and identifying palliative
behaviors that are commonly adopted by the chronically stressed.
Old and young Beatle aficionados will enjoy parsing the words of
select Beatles songs to find musical suggestions for handling
stress. |

603. Technology Can Be Good For Your
Health! – Heather Rotella and Dana Dorn
LearntobeHealthy.org is a free, online health
education resource for teachers, parents, children, and
community members world-wide. Comprised of three separate and
very distinct websites, LearntobeHealhy.org boasts lesson plans,
interactive games, and activities relating to health. The lesson
plans, built upon evidence-based model programs, are housed in
e-Learning kits. Each kit employs a variety of media and
educational modalities, such as animation, vivid graphics, and
sound effects, to engage learners. The activities address
specific learning objectives that are aligned to Health &
Technology Education Standards, while meeting the diverse
learning styles of all students. |

604. Reducing the Risk of Childhood
Obesity: The Family Fitness Program – Laurie Weinreb-Welch,
M.P.H.
The Family Fitness Program is a 5 week after school program
for children ages 8-12, especially those who are at risk or are
overweight. The program is based on the Stages of Change
Learning Theory and motivational interviewing techniques,
provides parents, adult caregivers and children with the
information, skills and motivational guidance necessary to
achieve diet quality and a healthy level of physical activity.
This is a research based program that utilized pre and post
screening measurements (BMI, blood pressure, waist
circumference) as well as pre and post test written surveys and
a six month follow-up. |

605. Planning a Course to Promote
Health in the Workplace – Carol Noel Michaels, M.P.H., CHES
and Jack Lenhart, MD.
Employers are realizing the impact that healthy employees
have on healthy business. Even so, they struggle with getting
started or maximizing resources to initiate worksite health
programs. This session will explore key steps, relationships,
and skills important to assessing employee needs, implementing
appropriate programs, and evaluating worksite health
initiatives. Discussion of anonymous client case studies will
demonstrate the challenges and successes businesses face when
developing a corporate culture of wellness. Participants will
leave with a personalized plan to apply to their work, and will
learn how provider networks, employers, insurance carriers, and
health professionals can integrate resources for positive
outcomes. |
